"Maison de Famille"

THE CHARM OF OUR FAMILY HOME

10 comfortable and quiet rooms,
with an excellent quality/price ratio

It is in this house, the cradle of the Lorain family, that the Côte Saint Jacques was born just 70 years ago.

Today, we offer a different type of hotel, simpler but always in a spirit of refinement, calm and modernity.

Connected to our Relais & Châteaux by an underground passage dug in 1985 by Michel Lorain, the rooms, which offerexcellent value for money, have all the comforts, except for the view of the river(*)

You can also enjoy all the facilities on the river side: restaurant, gardens, swimming pool and SPA.

(*) The Maison de Famille, located opposite the hotel, does not benefit from the 5 star rating ***** nor Relais & Châteaux

The History of the Family House

It was in the Lorain family home, located at 14 Faubourg de Paris, that the history of the Côte Saint-Jacques began immediately after the war.
During the world war, Marie Lorain welcomed the relatives of prisoners from a camp in Joigny, whom she housed and fed. In 1946, she transformed this large bourgeois house into a family boarding house.
This house is located below the Côte Saint Jacques, the hill where the wines of Joigny are produced, and it is therefore quite natural that Marie gave her establishment the name "Côte Saint Jacques".

In 1958, Michel Lorain , Marie's son, who had just finished his training as a chef, took over the reins of the Côte Saint Jacques with his wife Jacqueline and transformed the house into a hotel and restaurant. The first work consisted of installing running water and central heating on all floors, whereas at the time the doors of the rooms had to be left open in winter to take advantage of the heat from the stoves in the corridors!
We must not forget that it was within these walls that Michel Lorain obtained his first Michelin star in 1971, the second in 1976 and with his son Jean Michel the third in 1986.
The Maison de Famille will house the restaurant and the kitchens until December 2000 before being transferred to the banks of the Yonne.

The Family House, between History and Tradition, continues its transformations over the years.
